About us

Watoto Wa Baraka manages an orphanage north of Nairobi, near a town called Makuyu. Here we house the neediest orphans and provide them with basic physical, social and spiritual care. Orphans receive regular meals, attend school and receive care

Most of our volunteer programs are based from the orphanage and involve work such as construction, childcare, fieldwork and teaching.

Achievements

In the past year, we have completed the following goals:

• Completed the construction of a new dormitory to house 36 orphans
• Completed the digging of a water well to provide safe and clean water
• Planted crops to feed orphans and for sale
• Constructed a permanent water tank
• Through donations purchased a cow

Short-term goals

Our short-term goals for 2008 are to:

• Construct a permanent kitchen and dining room
• Construct permanent toilet block
• Construct store room
• Purchase/receive donations of beds for the orphans
• Purchase hens and a rooster to supply eggs for the orphans and for sale

Long-term goals

Our longer term goals are to:

• Expand the orphanage to house a greater number of orphans
• Build a school to educate the orphans and the local community children
• Have as many orphans as possible sponsored
• Increase the organisation's sustainability
